Bricks of JustHope

Several JustHope partners are building new, small but safe houses for the homeless and nearly homeless families of Chacraseca and Santa Emilia.  The partners provide the funding for the home ($2000 in Chacraseca and $3000 in Santa Emilia) and then work side-by-side with the family who will live there. 

Each home is about 12’ x 18’ and is made of concrete blocks with a tin roof and concrete floor. All the construction is done by hand.

The construction is supervised by a local "jefe" who is paid to lead the work project. 

The family — selected by the community’s leadership — joins in the building project, and neighbors often come to help.

CONRETE FLOORS FOR HEALTH...    

        Multiple studies have shown that families who live in houses with dirt floors have significantly more health problems than those who have concrete floors.   In Chacraseca, a critically poor community in costal Nicaragua, there are hundreds of families living with dirt floors -- and constant, recurring health problems.  $200 can change their floor and their lives!   $200 is the average cost of adding a concrete floor to the small homes in Chacraseca.  JustHope is partnering with the leadership in Chacraseca to try and replace all the dirt floors in Chacraseca within the next five years!

     The goal of JustHope and our partners in this and all our ‘mission partnership' work is not to ‘fix’ a community’s problems. It is, rather, to work in solidarity with communities, toward developing sustainable ways of global living as we build relationships of mutual respect and care. And our method is always partnerships — partnerships of communities, partnerships of people, partnerships of vision, and partnerships of resources. We know that TOGETHER we can accomplish far more any of us could ever do alone, and that “when we dream alone it remains only a dream. But when we dream together, it is not just a dream…it is the beginning of reality.
