Scholarships

JustHope partners provide scholarships to children, youth, and college students.

The cost of education per year is as follows:

Primary School: $40 year

Primary School (through 5th grade) is free in Nicaragua, but students need clothes and shoes to attend, plus their supplies. $40 a year provides one child with a uniform, shoes and socks, backpack, and a notebook and pencil.

Secondary/High School: $50 year

Secondary school in Nicaragua is 6th through 10th grade. The $50 covers uniforms, school supplies, and a small stipend for transportation (there are no school buses so students take a public bus).

University: $500 year

Most University programs are five years (equivalent to the last two years of high school and three college in the US); and, although the tuition is free, supplies and books cost an average of $500 per year depending on the area of focus.  Most students have to travel from Chacraseca or Santa Emilia to either Leon or Managua and stay during the week. The $500 provides for tuition and books, plus a small stipend toward transportation and living expenses.
