Disciples Christian Church & Chacraseca, Nicaragua

ChacrasecaMarch2009Disciples Christian Church, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, found their interest in adequate housing matched perfectly with the goal of Chacraseca's community leaders to make sure everyone in their community has a simple but decent place to live.

They are working with the leaders to create a sustainable program where, by families paying what they are able, even the poorest families can participate in buying a small (12’x18’) home with a tin roof and a concrete floor.

DCC took it’s first partnership exploration trip to Chacraseca, Nicaragua in March of 2009, and returned in 2010.  Along with getting to know the people of Chacraseca, the team members built two new homes for  hurricane afflicted families, provided scholarships for children to attend school, and helped with the final phase of the community’s clean water project.  They have also hosted several visitors from Chacraseca!  In 2011 DCC is planning a women-to-women trip to Chacraseca where they will share in a week of sharing stories and work with a group of Nicaraguan women.
