Teachers in Solidarity 2015

WHAT WILL WE DO?

Our primary activity will be developing relationships with our global neighbors–learning about their culture; experiencing daily life with them hearing their struggles, hopes, and dreams, and sharing ours. We will also spend time in classrooms observing, learning and sharing with Nicaraguan teachers. And there may be other possibilities for participating within the community! Whatever we do, we will do it side-by-side with our Nicaraguan partners while we learn about one another’s lives. And, of course, there will be some time for sightseeing!

WHERE WILL WE STAY?

We may spend one night in the capital city of Managua, and the rest of the week living in the Peace House in Chacraseca – a retreat center built for work groups and global partners. Living arrangements will be very modest, and may include using latrines during the workday. We will eat “tipico” Nicaraguan food prepared by the community-- (JustHope has trained the cooks in water and food safety for North American visitors) – and we will always have bottled water available for drinking. We’ll be limiting personal luggage to to one carry-on suitcase per person for the trip—it’s a chance to see what we can do without!

WHAT WILL IT COST?

The cost is $785 per person plus airfare to Managua, Nicaragua. A $200 nonrefundable deposit is due June 30; the remaining $585 is due August 17. This covers lodging, meals, in-country transportation, translator expenses, and trip coordination and leadership. The only personal costs will be your meals en route and on the last night, plus souvenirs, and any ‘tourist’ activities the team decides to add.
