Partners from St. Mary's Parish and St. John of the Cross will continue to develop their partnership with the people of Chacraseca.

Activities

Our primary activity will be to grow our relationship with our global neighbors - learning about their culture; experiencing daily life with them; and hearing their struggles, hopes, and dreams. We will also engage with them in working to realize some of their dreams, and support a specific project in the community (yet to be determined). Some possibilities for other activities: participate in a story exchange with local women, cooking together, repair local schools, visit micro-enterprises, art projects with children, computer classes for youth and much more! And, of course, there will be time for a bit of sightseeing!

Participants should be in good health, able to walk at least ¼ mile, and must be pre-approved by the trip organizer.

Accommodations

We will spend the nights in a modest hotels and at the Casa de Paz retreat house in Chacraseca. Participants will also have the opportunity to spend on night with a family. We will eat “tipico” Nicaraguan food  (mostly rice and beans) prepared by the community.

Travelers will be limited to one carry-on suitcase per person for the trip — it’s a chance to see what we can do without!

Costs

The cost is $825 per person plus airfare to Managua, Nicaragua. This covers most lodging, meals, in-country transportation, interpreter expenses, and trip coordination and leadership. Individuals will be responsible for a few meals and some lodging costs in Nicaragua; please communicate with trip organizer for more information about these costs. The only other personal costs will be meals en route to and from Nicaragua, souvenirs, and any unscheduled activities/meals the team decides to add. If a minimum number of participants is not reached, the cost person may increase. We have limited space for this adventure.

Travel Arrangements

Participants book their own flights, either individually or as a group. Participants must arrive in Managua by 3pm on the first day of the trip.

Deadlines

February 13: Online registration and $200 deposit due.
March 14: Final payment, passport copy, JustHope paperwork, and flight itinerary is due. See this page for more information.
